Now… it’s not that I can’t cook. In fact, I’m actually quite a good cook.
After more than 35 years of marriage, I have prepared over 10,000 dinners! Some days trying to come up with yet another interesting dinner can be frustrating and tedious. Unfortunately, sometimes I find myself churning out the old tried and tested family favourites for lack of new ideas.
This is where Perth business “You Plate It” can help change things up. They have made daily cooking a new and enjoyable experience with their online menu and delivery service.
Every week there is a new selection of recipes online to choose from. Once you have made your choice of meals, You Plate It do all of the hard work for you- shopping, meal planning and measuring the ingredients, which are then packaged and delivered to your home (for free) on Sunday, ready for the week ahead.
The ingredients are delivered in insulated boxes complete with ice packs to keep the food cold for around 12 hours. Each meal is packed separately so you can just pull out each meal to prepare as you require. The ingredients are sourced from local WA farmers and family-owned businesses, ensuring the freshest, highest quality produce available.
Preparing each of the You Plate It meals is so very easy. Both meals come with all of the pre-portioned ingredients and a recipe card with photos and step by step instructions, making them very quick and easy to put together and cook. Most of the meals can be prepared in 35 minutes or less. After being used to cooking for a large family, empty-nesters can often find they over-cater for two, so having the vegetables etc pre-measured is so handy. As they say “Less mess. Less mistakes. Less waste.”
I tried two of the meals offered – Lamb steaks with zucchini, peas and mint, and Couscous stuffed capsicums with yoghurt and tahini.
The lamb steaks were tender, and the zucchini salad was extremely tasty and full of flavour.
The second meal I made was a vegetarian dish. Going veggie was something that I wouldn’t usually do at all, and a surprise to my usually carnivorous husband! He was very impressed by the combination of flavours and it certainly gave us something to chat about at the dinner table. I was impressed with the quality of all the fresh ingredients. It was so refreshing to try something completely out of our comfort zone and enjoy it so much.
You Plate It takes all of the hard work out of weekly meal preparation. It really is as simple as 1,2,3. The hardest part is trying to decide which meals to choose from their ever-changing online menu. I would certainly recommend the service to anybody who hates the usual weekly round of meal planning and shopping, or people that are housebound.
For me, You Plate It brought the excitement back into my kitchen and mealtimes after so many years of cooking the same old boring meals for my family. Cooking something tasty and new made me feel empowered! Having the box of fresh You Plate It produce delivered to our door was a very welcome break from meal planning and shopping too. It certainly makes me look forward to the next 10, 000 meals!
