The Kalamunda Hotel, Kalamunda

The Kalamunda Hotel, nestled in the heart of the Perth Hills, is not just a place to enjoy a tasty pub meal, but a spot steeped in rich history and, some say, supernatural activity. Yikes!

The hotel is found in the lovely town of Kalamunda, net to the main shopping Center and Kalamunda Library. Built in 1902, the pub has been beautifully preserved, and oozes charm of a bygone era. As the winter sun was shining brightly, we decided to sit in the recently refurbished beer garden, a paved space filled with lush greenery. Despite a chill in the air, the warmth of the sun made it a lovely place to sit. It’s dog friendly too.

The menu offers a wide variety of all the pub favourites we’ve come to know and love, catering to all tastes and dietary requirements (though I would love to see more GF options). There are QR codes on every table, allowing you to order straight from your phone via an app. Or you can order at the bar. Mr H enjoyed a classic steak sandwich on a Turkish panini, with bacon, salad, onion rings, and plenty of chips.

I just couldn’t resist a hearty osso buco, with a rich tomato gravy, creamy mash and roasties . Both dishes tasted good, were very generous portions and the freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite. We did both note that they could have been served hotter.

As we ate our meals, we chatted about the rumors that have surrounded the Kalamunda Hotel for years โ€“ that it is haunted! Locals and staff alike have reported strange occurrences, and the pub is believed to be one of the most haunted places in Western Australia. Whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, the stories add an element of intrigue to the hotel’s fascinating history.

The Kalamunda Hotel serves up tasty pub food in a heritage setting. If you’re exploring the Perth Hills Town, including it’s many gift shops, Zig Zag Gallery and the Kalamunda History Museum, be sure to pop to the pub for a pint and bite the eat. Just keep an eye out for any friendly spirits that may be lurking around!
