We started out our night with a couple of drinks, a craft beer for my partner and a fruity cocktail for myself. It didn’t take us long to decide that we’d like to share our dishes of choice, which included a BIG steak! The drinks list is just as impressive. The wine list offered a great selection that paired beautifully with our meal, I enjoyed a Vasse Felix Chardonay along with our seafood plates.

Every dish was a burst of flavour. First up, we shared two entree sized dishes. Plump seared scallops served on a creamy coconut vinaigrette, pickled shallot, coriander, green chilli, and ginger crisps. which had a lovely balance of sweetness from the coconut vinaigrette and a bit of heat from the green chilli. The ginger crisps added a textural crunch. We especially loved the local octopus with romesco sauce, olives, and chorizo. The tender octopus was a generous serve and full of robust flavours.

We shared the perfectly grilled and rested 600g beef prime rib, along with duck fat potatoes, garlic spinach cream, and a rich jus. This is a generous portion for two. Always one to relish my greens, we also ordered a side of broccolini with parmesan, tomato, and chickpea cassoulet. The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. The duck fat potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the rich jus was really something special – a sort-of icing on a meaty cake!

The highlight of the night was the beef prime rib. It was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavour. The garlic spinach was smooth and creamy, complementing the meat wonderfully. The broccolini, topped with parmesan, on a tomato, and chickpea cassoulet, was a tasty and hearty side dish. And then came dessert! We were surprised with a beautifully presented “happy anniversary” chocolate mousse cake. It was rich, decadent, and a sweet ending to our meal. Big thanks to the Samuels Pastry chef for this thoughtful (and delicious) touch.

The excellent food and attentive front of house team at Samuels Restaurant made our evening so special. We’d absolutely head back for another memorable meal.
