Found in the foothills, Zanthorrea Nursery Maida Vale, is my very favourite plant nursery. Itโs very easy to see why the beautifully set out garden centre has won so many awards, itโs brilliant. And itโs won the AGIA ‘Best Garden Centre in Australia’ SEVEN times in the last 20+ years.
Zanthorrea , which specialises in quality Australian native plants, is a very interesting place for gardening enthusiasts to visit, whether to pick up some seedlings, outdoor ornaments or just enjoy a stroll and get a little inspiration for your own garden.
The entrance features a large selection of gardening books and giftware, much of it is organic, environmentally sound, Australian themed (great for gifts to send overseas!), and where applicable, fair trade and ethically sourced. Itโs very difficult to come away without treating yourself.
Outside, the nursery is well set out in sectionsโฆ ground covers, coastal plants, shady plants, herbs and vegetable seedlings, as well as unique Aussie โbush tuckerโ plants. Youโre guaranteed to find something unusual at Zanthora.
Thereโs a good range of pots.
And so many unique decorative outdoor features.
The display gardens are just wonderful to have a stroll around. They showcase the many plants that are available to buy, a well as providing inspiration for garden design. Thereโs many different themes including formal, informal, outback and water features.
Thereโs also an indoor plant area, which doubles as a nice place to sit with a cuppa.
Thereโs no cafรฉ, but there is a coffee corner.
Here self-serve tea and coffee (in a china mug!) is free. There is also a drinks machine and cold, bottled drinks and cookies available to buy.
Dogs are welcome at Zanthorrea , as long as theyโre on a leash.
And if youโre taking the grandkids along, they will love Zanthora too! Thereโs a large, shaded play area/sandpit, with slide and a fort.
Thereโs even a hunt through the gardens to find the many different sculptures, which my grandson loved!
Near the exit there is also a helpful information corner, full of many gardening and plant textbooks, if you need a little extra info. The very friendly staff are also very knowledgeable and happy to help.
My husband and I are very keen gardeners, so we can never visit Zanthorrea and come away empty handed. Do your garden a favour and visit the spectacular, family owned Zanthorrea Nursery today.
