Canal Rocks, Yallingup

The other-worldly Canal Rocks, near Yallingup, are a must visit attraction in Western Australia’s south west. Their Noongar name is “Winjee Sam”. This natural wonder is spectacular to see. The rocks is very accessible from the car park, with just a few meters to walk to the wooden boardwalk. The craggy rock formations are just fabulous! Over millions of years, the Indian Ocean has carved canal-like channels into the granite rocks, leaving many smaller rocky islands.

Canal Rocks

A raised wooden boardwalk takes you out over the water and onto the rocks. It is quite narrow in places, but a lovely place to stop and watch the ebb and flow of the tide over the rocks.

Canal Rocks

You’re free to climb over the rocks themselves. Though with strong rips, currents, king waves and surges, it’s advisable not to, or to stay away from the water’s edge.

The views looking north over the ocean towards Cape Naturaliste and Yallingup are stunning.

There are plenty of handy facilities here. As well as toilets and a large car park, there is also a public boat ramp and spacious parking for cars and boat trailers. One thing to note is there is no shade, especially if you are visiting on a hot summer’s day.

Found about 4kms south west of Yallingup, Canal Rocks is easily accessed from Caves Road. Just look out for the Cape Lavender Tea House on the corner. This is a lovely place to stop for a cuppa if you visit the area. Barnyard 1978 is also next door.
