If you love a traditional Devonshire tea, the pretty Cape Lavender Tea House in Yallingup is one of those places you should most definitely visit! The country-style cafe on Caves Road has oodles of old-fashioned charm. Set amongst lush lawns and gardens, the tearooms have a cosy, welcoming feel. Inside, you’ll find plenty of tables, and a gift shop with lots of lavender-themed goodies, while outside there’s a small dog-friendly dining area on the veranda.

Of course, here lavender is the star, with warm scones, lavender jam and cream (which way round you put it on your scone is up to you!), and tea served in beautiful teapots, poured into cups and saucers.

Plus, we just had to try the lavender ice cream, which has a delicious musk flavour.

There are fresh cabinet cakes (lavender mousse cake anyone?) and other treats available too, but it’s hard to go past the classic scone-and-tea combo.

We also enjoyed a good coffee, decadent iced chocolate (served with cream and iced cream) and a hot chocolate.

Cape Lavender Tea House suits older people particularly well, as seating is comfortable, the pace is slow, and staff are used to people lingering over a second pot of tea. It’s an easy place to sit and chat for without feeling rushed out the door. Cape Lavender Tea House is a lovely place to stop if you’re driving between Dunsborough, Yallingup and Margaret River, looking for a gentle outing, or for a sweet break between wineries and sightseeing.

Spend time browsing the shop with its huge variety of all things lavender, including soaps, hand creams, candles, heat packs even purple bears, bags and more. There is also a large range of preserves to buy.

Be sure to browse all the bits and pieces that make nice gifts or souvenirs to take home.

If you’re planning a day of meandering around the region, Cape Lavender makes a lovely mid-morning stop or afternoon pick-me-up, it’s also very close to Canal Rocks and Swings & Roundabouts winery. Just follow the signs, park up (the car park does get very busy – so it’s best to arrive early), and let the combo of warm scones, good tea and country calm do the rest.
