The Ellington Jazz Club is a gem in the heart of the city. Just north of Newcastle Street, there is ample parking and bus stops right in front of the venue, and disabled access to the ground level of the venue.
This Club offers world-class jazz, warm hospitality and the ambience of an old speakeasy. The Ellington strives to present a wide range of musical styles including jazz and jazz-influenced music. They value gender equality, racial diversity and sexual orientation for their performers and patrons, with all being welcome. 
They strive to present the highest quality music possible in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment for all. The Ellington is a seven night a week jazz club that presents more than 600 shows per year and is recognised as a great place to perform and listen to music.
The night we chose was a guitar performance backed by a three-piece band. You haven’t lived until you see people jam live! It is amazing to see the mastery of instruments up close and personal in this venue. In the intermission we got the opportunity to chat with the musicians and soak up the atmosphere as people mingled and chatted.
Reserve a table or booth, or stand at the bar if you dropping in for a drink. The Ellington has a fantastic shared picking menu, pizzas and desserts if you are after a bite to eat to go with your bottle of red or old fashioned from the fully stocked bar.
Sitting in this venue you are transported to another time and place as you sit and absorb the music whilst noticing the hustle of the world outside through a small overhead window. You could easily be sitting in New York, sipping a drink with great friends and great music.
The Ellington offers a range of gift vouchers which can be purchased online and you can book your table for performances at their website. They also offer memberships if you decide this is somewhere you want to keep going back to. The temptation for this is very high after such an amazing experience.
