Farmers Market on Manning

My trip to Farmers Market on Manning on Saturday morning was to have a leisurely wander around, to take a huge bag of bottles and cans to containers for change and to investigate the potato stall.

After I’d collected my winnings from returning my empties I used them to buy a chilli sauce from Dr Paul’s Hotsauce, one of our favourite suppliers of pain. Dr Paul’s products are locally made and can be found online, at Mane Liquor in Belmont and Spice Wagon at Coventry Markets.

I then sought out the man who sells the spuds, Blue Moon Potatoes, where I bought two varieties, the Neptunes I used yesterday to make mashed and roast potatoes with our lamb dinner, the smalls I’ve yet to try.

They were perfect, they mashed very well and roasted in pork fat they were super crispy on the outside and fluffy within. The flavour was excellent and well worth trying. Maris Pipers I believe, are available too at certain times of the year.

Manning market is a lovely place to while away an hour or two on a Saturday morning and is very family orientated.

There’s a vast amount of food vendors to feed you with a tasty brekkie to be enjoyed with a coffee or fresh juice under the trees listening to the buskers. Not only that but you’ll be spoilt for choice with all the fruit and veg stalls, organic meat and artisan crafts.

I bought some fancy mushrooms from Swan valley gourmet fungi, a pack of chunky burgers, cavolo nero, the freshest and tastiest green beans I’ve had in years and cauliflower along with the potatoes to have with our Sunday lamb dinner.

The exotic mushrooms we had for brekkie yesterday and the free-range dry-aged burgers from Gingin were smashed for dinner on Saturday.

It’s certainly a great start to the weekend to stock up with quality local produce for the week ahead.
