Staying at Kookaburra is a wonderful opportunity to de-stress, de-tox and be rejuvenated in a pristine natural environment away from the stressors of city, suburban and working life.Kookaburra Creek is definitely the place to unwind, relax and recharge in the renovated and refurbished railway carriage. Just a short drive off Albany Highway, you will think you’ve travelled hours down south!Surrounded by lovely bushlands Kookaburra Creek is a vision come alive by owners Mandy and Robert. They are so committed to the practice of yoga and mindfulness that they designed a purpose built yoga studio on their property. As a guest you are invited to join in any of the classes that may be running for the duration of your stay – for free.
I was lucky enough to experience a gorgeous full moon meditative experience as well as a beginners yoga class. Best to head up quick, these classes are extremely popular. On entry you will feel an immediate sense of calm. It truly is a beautiful space. I attended both classes under the tutelage of Mandy and she truly was a gentle and knowledgeable guide. I felt blissfully calm and aligned afterwards. The carriage itself is gorgeous. It is quite unassuming from the outside but the small space has been brilliantly utilised indoors.Completely self-contained, the only thing you will need to bring is your own food however do try and have one meal. Mandy is an amazing cook and even though I am not a vegetarian, I thoroughly enjoyed every morsel brought to me on the tray.
Much of the produce used in our kitchen is grown on the property in our organic gardens or locally in orchards and small farms. All food prepared for retreat participants is ‘sattvic’ – meaning it is nourishing, fresh and full of vital life force to support your health and a peaceful state of being.
They grow their own produce and the food was flavoursome and beautifully presented. I ate on the deck overlooking the stream and surrounding forest and it was magical! There are bush walks and plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife such as kangaroos, kookaburras and bird life aplenty.
You can design your own retreat and for additional costs add extra options such as meals, private yoga sessions, massage, counselling and even sound healing. Or just bring along a good book and take in the tranquility. There is no tv which was refreshing and you can either choose to completely switch off or connect up to the free wifi from the main house. Mandy and Robert are a short walk if you need anything and they provide their direct number if you should need to ask them anything throughout your stay.
Everything has been thought of and every comfort afforded. The queen sized bed was like sleeping on a cloud and though the weather was quite mild, there is a split system for cooler and warmer months.Plenty of storage and space to move. The self contained kitchen was equipped with basics and lovely touches.
The bathroom is spacious and has everything you will need. All the products in the carriage are organic and lovely to indulge in!
This is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway or a lovely chance to shut off from the world and recharge.
