For once, I didn’t pull up a chair at my usual Joondalup coffee go-to’s (Paper Avenue and Gipsy Boy), and decided to try the brunch offering at relative newcomer Luca. Found at the bottom of an office block, in Joondalup’s CBD, sits Luca. I was curious to see how this cafe rated alongside a few of my faves.

The vibe at Luca is unmistakably warm – it was a chilly day, but I immediately felt the heaters pumping as we walked in the door. With their doors open from 7am on weekdays and 8am on weekends, it’s easy to kick off your day with a coffee. Speaking of coffee – it’s good! The baristas know their stuff, whether you’re a flat white fanatic (like me) or a soy long black loyalist.

My son enjoyed the eggs benedict, served atop a thick slice of French toast, with perfectly poached eggs, plenty of crisp bacon rashers and a creamy hollandaise sauce.

The scrambled eggs and bacon, while a simple dish, could use fine-tuning. On my visit, the eggs were a tad overdone, with a solid consistency more like an omelet than the fluffy, creamy, just done scramble I was hoping for – a shame.

Beyond the classics, their menu showcases some creative options – from the indulgent Buttermilk chicken burger to the more refined wild truffle mushroom toast. Their ruben sandwhiches are apparently a crowd favourite too. The café itself is the sort of place where you can linger over a leisurely weekend brekkie or grab something quick if you’re on the go during the week. Positioned opposite Joondalup Hospital, Luca could be handy for both hospital staff needing their morning caffeine hit and visitors looking for a relaxed brekkie spot. There is street parking available, which is paid, on weekdays.

Whether you’re a Joondalup local or just passing through, Luca Joondalup offers – good vibes, great coffee, and hearty food. Worth a visit, if you’re looking for something different, when you’re in the area!
