Pies & Ale, Forest Grove

Pies & Ale

If you’re driving around the beautiful Margaret River region, and you’re in the mood for a lunch that’s both uncomplicated, yet 100% delicious, then Pies & Ale is a must-visit. Far removed from the typical vineyard fine diners all along Caves Road, this tucked away spot is near Witchcliffe. Pies and Ale will charm you with its lush forest location, and fantastic pies!

Originally making waves at the Subiaco Farmers Market, the owners of Pies & Ale made the wise decision to settle in this picturesque region. With a devoted following, Pies & Ale craft their irresistible pies fresh every day, with an ever-changing array of taste bud tempting fillings and local beers on tap.

We’d explored Hamelin Bay in the morning, and as we made our way back to Margs, we stumbled upon Pies and Ale for lunch. The straightforward menu features homemade pies and locally brewed beer. Encased in flaky, homemade pastry, each savory filling is served piping hot with a side of rich gravy. There’s traditional fillings (with plenty of chunks of meat). as well as deliciously different dishes, like “cheeseburger” pies.

The children were kept happily occupied with coloring sheets and Aussie word searches. There’s a playground there too. Handy if you have grandkids with you.

Pies & Ale

While our visit was on a warm January day, I can only imagine the appeal of this spot on a wintery day. The pies are perfect cold day comfort food. You may like to bear in mind that the word has got out on this gem. Pies & Ale tends to sell out quickly, so it’s advisable to arrive for an early lunch to avoid disappointment.
