Pioneer Village, Armadale

Pioneer Village Armadale

Here’s a blast from the past… can you remember the Pioneer World in Armadale? If you lived in Perth during the 1980’s, no doubt you paid a visit to this  open-air history museum. Back in the day, the Teetotallers Hall, olde lolly shop, picture house, blacksmiths and The Travellers Arms pub would be packed with busloads of tourists. I was a child, but I still have fond memories of panning for gold nuggets in the replica gold-rush town.

That attraction has long since closed, you can still have a wander down memory lane at Pioneer Village. It’s home to many of the old replica buildings. It’s free to take a walk around the village.

Most of the “old” buildings are now shops – there’s a day spa, yoga studio, barbers and even a sweet fairy shop. One cottage is home to the Organic Circle café, where we stopped for afternoon tea. For the health conscious, the Organic Circle Café is a great place to enjoy a cuppa along with nourishing food. The menu offers organic whole foods, so you can rest your mind that the tasty treats are also free from chemicals and other nasty food additives. It also caters well to those with vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free and gluten-fee diets.

The cosy dining room has an alternative/hippy feel. We pulled up a chair and enjoyed a raw bar snack. The chiller cabinet is brimming with raw goodies and other healthy treats.

Organic Circle Café doubles as a food shop, so you can stock up on organic fresh produce and products. There are also locally made crafts and more.

Although Pioneer World is no longer, it’s still worth a trip and a coffee at the café, if you’re in the area.
