After a truly excellent meal at Silks, I doubt whether I will ever have a Chinese takeaway again!
We chose Crown Perth to celebrate a special occasion on a Friday night and what a good choice Silks Chinese restaurant turned out to be.
The decor is minimalist – pale colours with an Oriental carpet and splashes of colour as well as understated Asian furniture and several lovely Chinese vases and wooden features scattered around the room. There are several large round tables with the ubiquitous Lazy Susan style glass in the middle, a few booths on the back wall and tables for two or four interspersing the round tables. Chairs are very comfortable – all the better for lounging in when feeling full after this magnificent food.
Our table of four thought about having the Jade degustation menu ($168.00 pp), which featured six courses but finally decided to go for the normal menu.
Our choices were:
Silks signature Dim Sum selection ($25). Three pieces – scallop, lobster and crab.
Peking Duck ($11 per piece)
Silks signature Manna crabmeat hot and sour soup ($28)
Wok-fried Patagonian toothfish in superior soy sauce ($48)
Silks signature wok fried king prawns with chilli sea salt ($48)
Wok fried beef fillet with black bean sauce ($48)
Stir-fried chicken with satay sauce ($38)
Mongolian lamb ($48)
Silks signature fried rice with scallops, prawn, roast duck and vegetables in XO sauce ($38)
Fried egg noodles with bbq pork in superior soy sauce ($28)
Everything was cooked to perfection, had good-sized portions and was professionally presented not to mention tasting fabulous.
We all agreed that although all the dishes were good the stand-outs were – the king prawns which were encased in an extremely crispy batter, the crab soup, the delicate taste of the Patagonian toothfish and the Mongolian lamb which came with exquisite steamed buns. Service was unobtrusive and extremely efficient. A server was always nearby to pour drinks or take orders.
Yes Silks is expensive and I wouldn’t dream of going there for a midweek dinner but it is a great place for a special night out.
There are no mobility access problems at Crown or at Silks. There is lots of free parking or valet parking is available for $50.
