Spritz Spizzicheria Review
Mt Hawthorn has a food buzz these days with the opening of some new eateries but there is still plenty of room and demand for an older favourite.
Spritz Spizzicheria on Scarborough Beach Road is an old fashioned, authentic, Italian with a modern twist. Old fashioned enough to serve good-sized portions of great tasting food and modern enough to incorporate the bustle of an inner-city bar.
Spizzicheria is Italian for ‘picking’ and Spritz is an ideal place for nibbles and drinks with friends or colleagues after work. The antipasto plate, full of cured meats, cheese and olives, is good value for $12 and if you throw in the signature Aperol Spritz that is theatrically delivered by the server – that’s your entertainment sorted too.
My husband and I visited for lunch and enjoyed the Aperol Spritz servings at other tables but I decided on the more traditional glass of Pinot Grigio ($9) with my lunch.
My husband had the Fettuccine al Fruitti di Mare ($28) – seafood fettucini in a tomato and garlic sauce, while I opted for the Beef Cheek Ravioli ($25) with a mild garlic and chilli sauce. Both meals were very good especially with the generous serving of Parmesan sprinkled on the dish at the table. The fettuccine just edged it over my ravioli – full of plump prawns, mussels and squid.
Our server was Italian, prompt, efficient and friendly with a good knowledge of the menu. The open kitchen is at the back of the restaurant and it is also good entertainment to watch the pizzas being made.
Spritz has a large alfresco area as well as indoor dining but does not take reservations. There is a queue at busy times, especially at the weekends
Owners Mario Tolardo and Franco Tambasco have been in the restaurant business since 1993. Their previous restaurant, Osteria Dei Sapori in Nedlands was very popular and was one of eight Perth restaurants awarded the Italian government’s Ospitalia Italiana seal in 2011.
Spritz is open for takeaways Wednesday until Sunday, 4:40-8:30.
