Star Swamp Reserve in North Beach and Watermans Bay is a suburban oasis that offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Perth city life. This beautiful “bush forever” is home to easy bushland trails that are perfect for nature lovers, walkers, and anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful outdoor spot.
The reserve spans over 96 hectares and is home to a diverse range of native flora and fauna. As you wander along the well-maintained limestone trails, you’ll encounter everything from towering eucalypts to delicate wildflowers (in late winter and spring). Keep your eyes peeled for native birds, quendas (bandicoots) and other wildlife that call this area home. There is a 1.4km Heritage Trail that runs from the Henderson Environmental Centre (where I parked) in the south, to Mary Street in the north. There’s also a 3.8km loop.
One of the best bits of Star Swamp is its accessibility. The trails are suitable for all fitness levels, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll or a more vigorous hike. There are also plenty of spots to sit and relax, so you can rest and take in the natural West Aussie coastal beauty at your own pace.
Star Swamp is a community treasure, offering a scenic environment for both locals and visitors. Whether you’re looking to get some exercise, take the dog for walkies (on lead), or simply unwind in nature without a long drive, Star Swamp Reserve is the perfect destination.
