Swings and Roundabouts

Just a hop, skip, and jump from Yallingup, Swings and Roundabouts is a must-visit destination for foodies and wine lovers exploring the Margaret River region. Found on the winding Caves Road, this winery and restaurant combines a relaxed atmosphere with a beautiful outlook and family-friendly features, making it a top spot for all ages. The venue ticks all the right boxes, great food and wine, friendly southwest hospitality, and a stunning view. First up, why not pay a visit to their cellar door, so you can suss out the best drop to enjoy over lunch?

I love their Chardonnay, which in my opinion is up there with Margret River’s best. There’s a summery rose, fruity chenin blanc and plenty more white and red drops to try.

If you’re visiting with grandchildren, a large nature-inspired playground will keep the little ones entertained for hours. The playground has wine barrel features, a cute grapevine mural, and plenty of fun elements, including treehouse-style forts, a spinning barrel, fireman’s pole, and (of course) swings. The playful space is packed with enough variety to keep kids active all afternoon.

For the grown-ups, the alfresco dining area offers prime seating near the playground, so you can relax with a glass of wine while keeping an eye on the grandkids.

For those who prefer a little peace with their pinot, there’s plenty of outdoor seating away from the action of the play area. True to its quirky charm, Swings and Roundabouts also features a unique covered alfresco space with swing chairs – adding a touch of whimsy to your winery dining experience.

If the weather takes a turn, the indoor dining area is just as inviting. Perfect for year-round dining the spacious room is perfect for accommodating large groups or family gatherings. I’d love to see that fire roaring in winter!

At the heart of Swings and Roundabouts’ food offering is their wood-fired pizza menu. The hand-stretched bases are crisp yet fluffy, and the toppings are plentiful. The meatlovers-style Italian pizza (M ) was an instant hit on our table.

For those who prefer to try something different, the share plates are bursting with fresh flavors. For me, the pressed duck, served with fennel, wood-fired honey peaches, green pea puree, pistachios, and watercress, was a standout. I loved the silky peaches, which took on a smoked salmon-like texture.

Another favorite was the roasted curried cauliflower, perfectly spiced and complemented by pine nuts and sultanas. The menu also caters to dietary needs, with plenty of gluten-free options.

Children have a few choices on the kid’s menu; pizza, nuggets and a healthy grazing option.

The menus double as coloring sheets and there’s plenty of highchairs too.
