Love a trip down memory lane? Well, be sure to take a leisurely drive to the historic town of York, which as well as being home to some beautiful old buildings (like the iconic town hall), it’s home to an impressive vintage vehicle collection. York Motor Museum, is easily accessible, found on the main street of York – Avon Terrace. The Avon Valley country town is lucky to have this gem of a museum, which was first opened in 1979. Many of the cars were once part of a private collection owned by Peter Briggs.
The two main galleries have cars from almost every decade. There are many beautiful old cars, from an age where vehicles had real style. Each and every polished vehicle tells a story. The very first commercially build motor car, the iconic Model T Ford is there. My personal favourite, an 1950s Porche roadster is found there, as well as Morris Minors, VW Beetles, Chevrolets, and much more.
If you love two wheeled vehicles, the museum is also home to an impressive collection of vintage motorcycles.
Plus vintage toy cars, a retro caravan and loads of mechanic memorabilia with vintage petrol pumps and signs.
There are even quirky and famous cars on display. You can look at a car used in the Crocodile Dundee movie (the dashboard is signed by Paul Hogan himself). Plus, keep your eyes peeled for a very unique police car!
The museum’s friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to share interesting stories and answer any questions.
Be sure to pair a visit to the York Motor Museum with exploring the country town of York itself. There’s plenty of well-preserved architecture, cafes, and shops. York offers a lovely day trip from Perth. The York Motor Museum is a great place to take a trip down memory lane.
