ZigZag Boardwalk, Burns Beach
A Scenic Coastal Walk with Partial Accessibility

The ZigZag Boardwalk in Burns Beach (City of Joondalup) is a beautiful way to experience the coastline, offering sweeping ocean views, gentle pathways and a relaxed seaside atmosphere. Recently upgraded, the boardwalk now follows the natural topography of the dunes, creating a more seamless connection to the beachfront while preserving the surrounding environment.
Accessibility
The boardwalk has two entry points:
- Accessible pathway — fully wheelchair and stroller friendly, leading to a lovely lookout over Burns Beach.
- Stair access — an 86‑step staircase that takes visitors directly down to the beach.

This means the boardwalk is accessible up until the lookout, but unfortunately not fully accessible all the way to the beach. It’s a bit disappointing for those using mobility aids, but the lookout itself offers beautiful views and an easy, enjoyable walk.

Beach Conditions
The beach here isn’t a typical swimming beach. It’s best suited for:
- Walking when the tide is low
- Exploring the rocky reef
- Kids searching for crabs and shells
It’s a great spot for curious little ones and nature lovers, but not ideal for a full swim.

Facilities
Parking is available along the main beachside road, with:
- Outdoor showers
- Benches
- A water bubbler
There are no public toilets, so plan ahead before visiting.
The boardwalk itself runs for around 150 metres along vegetated coastland, connecting the accessible path near the shower facilities on Beachside Drive down toward the beachfront.

Coffee Stop
A lovely bonus is the easy, accessible walk from Monelli’s Burns Beach Café to the boardwalk. Grab a coffee before you head off — or simply BYO coffee and enjoy it with ocean views.
Why Seniors Will Love It
- Gentle, accessible pathway to the lookout
- Beautiful coastal scenery
- Easy parking and facilities
- Great for short walks, dog outings and relaxed exploring
- Close to Monelli’s for a pre‑walk treat
- Thoughtfully designed boardwalk that blends into the natural dunes
The ZigZag Boardwalk may not offer full beach access for everyone, but it’s still a charming coastal experience with plenty to enjoy from the top — especially for those seeking a peaceful, scenic outing.
