If you’re visiting John Forrest National Park, or treading Mundaring’s trails, make time to pop into Glen Forrest Gourmet for coffee and cake. This friendly local café is right opposite Morgan John Morgan Park on Railway Parade aka the Train Park, making it very convenient for a relaxed Perth Hills morning out. The park itself is a favourite with families thanks to its train-themed playground, and it is also right beside the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail. Whether you’re walking, cycling, meeting friends or just out for a scenic drive, Glen Forrest Gourmet makes a very handy pit stop.
I’ve stopped in here a number of times for coffee on the run and the cabinet is always hard to walk past. It is packed with fresh bakes, with a different-looking selection each visit. If you enjoy a proper house-made café cake with your cuppa, you’ll be very happy here.
On my most recent visit, I tried a gluten-free veggie muffin. It was moist, packed with flavour and a nice option if you’re after something a little less sweet. Of course, there are plenty of more indulgent choices too, so choosing can be difficult!
The coffee is excellent, using ethically sourced beans roasted locally in Perth. Glen Forrest Gourmet also supports local dairy suppliers and bakeries, which is always lovely to see. Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. There is a small toy and book corner, plus a blackboard, which keeps grandkidss entertained while the adults catch up.
If coffee and cake turns into brunch, there are breakfast options available, as well as lunch choices. Takeaway is popular too, especially when the weather is good and everyone is keen to head back outside to the trail.
For a fuller day out, Hillside Cycles is next door, where bike hire is available. The Railway Reserves Heritage Trail is close by, and John Forrest National Park is only a short drive away. Glen Forrest Gourmet is an easy local cafés that makes a trip to the hills feel extra tasty. Great coffee, fresh cabinet treats and a lovely location opposite the park – what more do you need?
