Cycle Path Emu Point to Middleton Beach, Albany

Cycle Path Emu Point to Middleton Beach

Part of the fun of being on holiday is discovering new places, and one of the best ways to see the sights is by bike. We dusted off our bikes and hit the cycle path from Emu Point in Albany for a look around the area whilst getting some much-needed exercise.

We started our ride at Emu Point after having coffee and a muffin at the Emu Point Cafe. The beach here is calm and sheltered with an enclosed swimming area that even has marked swimming lanes for swimming laps. One of the special things about the beach here is the wheelchair access to the beach complete with the availability of a beach access wheelchair for people with disabilities or the elderly, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the beach along with everyone else.

Itโ€™s a leisurely ride at the beginning of the cycle path that takes you past parklands and we noticed that there is new exercise equipment being installed for public use.

The path winds its way along following the coastline, and along the way there are notice boards showing the path route and also the different areas of the beaches and their uses; for example, there is a designated horse exercise area and a dog beach, and it is a great incentive to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and our wonderful beaches.

We saw lots of wildlife such as different birds, including a beautiful blue wren that played catch me if you can with me whilst I tried in vain to get a photograph and there are an incredible amount of black lizards which do give you a bit of a start when they move quickly across your path.

We rode as far as Middleton Beach, which was about a 4km ride, where we could have stopped for coffee at the 3 Anchors cafe but decided to keep up the momentum and do the return trip to Emu Point before we lost our incentive. The cycle path is a shared pathway that is also for walkers so consideration has to be taken for other users. We found the ride to be moderately easy, given that we are not regular bike riders, and an enjoyable way to spend some of our morning.
