Blue Tiger Café

Blue Tiger Café Review

Manjimup seemed like a good place to stop on our journey from Margaret River to Albany.  Manjimup is famous for its truffles which is one of my husband’s favourite treats but alas it was not truffle season so we settled for breakfast instead.

We stopped at the Blue Tiger Café in Mangimup’s centre and after a quick look at the menu decided on our usual eggs on toast ($13.5). I did regret that shortly afterwards when customers at the next table were tucking into their pancake stack!

However, our eggs were perfectly cooked and the dish was well presented. Our extras of bacon ($5), beans ($5) and hash browns ($3) were plentiful and tasty. But it was the chilli jam that made this a stand out dish. I can’t believe that I’ve never tried chilli jam with my bacon before. Never mind the truffles – this house-made chilli jam was heavenly and we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts. My husband has insisted that I mention the delicious coffee. As a confirmed tea drinker (English Breakfast variety only) – tea is tea as far as I am concerned but my husband likes to rate his coffee and we avoid places whose coffee has rated only an average or worse score.

There is also an honourable mention for the cakes on display. If we had any more room after breakfast we would have taken away the avocado lime and coconut cheesecake or maybe the Toblerone cheesecake or how about the unicorn and Nutella fudge? Suffice to say the cakes looked great. The obviously efficient, friendly and approachable staff at Blue Tiger were kept busy with a constant stream of locals ordering takeaway coffee and food.

Blue Tiger also offers Turkish bread burgers ($13.5-$16), salads ($16-$20.50) and toasted sandwiches ($9.50). A specials board includes such items as chicken korma, Vege coconut curry soup and classic chilli beef.

This is a seriously good place to eat if you are staying in the surrounding area or just like us – passing through.

By the way, chilli jam was the first item on my grocery list when we got back home!
