Purple Gate Bistro at Yanchep Lavender Farm

Just turning into the Yanchep Lavender Farm is a colourful, and for me, nostalgic experience.  Going in through the purple gates and driving amidst an abundance of purple lavender was quite reminiscent of a long-ago holiday in Provence.

A friend had booked us into the Purple Gates Bistro at the Lavender Farm and I was looking forward to breakfast.

Inside the large restaurant, the décor is modern with recycled timbers and an emphasis on lavender.

There is a huge verandah where it would be lovely to enjoy lunch on a nice sunny day.

Parents and grandparents could enjoy coffee and cake while keeping an eye on children running around in the large grassed area or enjoying the playground and climbing on a tractor, painted  what else? – purple.

The breakfast menu is small but has plenty of options from Chilli eggs ($18) to Pancakes ($18) and Avo Smash ($23). My friend chose the Bacon Benny ($25) which included two poached eggs, bacon, wilted greens, hollandaise sauce and fried breadcrumbs served with sourdough.

I went for the Full Farm Breakfast ($30); I declined the tomato and beans but managed to get through two eggs, two sausages, a hash brown, mushrooms and sourdough – phew! Both dishes were very enjoyable.

I don’t know where the restaurant sources its bacon, but it is very tasty. We were quite intrigued by one of the menu items – Cozy Soldier Dippy Eggs ($10), served in an eggcup with a cosy cover, and it is not part of the Kid’s menu…

Purple Gates Bistro also offers High Tea ($35 per person) and an all day menu. The all-day menu is heavy on pizza and pub favourites such as Chicken Parmy ($32), Steak Sandwich ($30) and Beef and Guiness pie ($32). The restaurant is licensed.

Take-away small goods are available so I bought two lavender scones ($8) which come with pats of butter and a small container of jam – my husband polished them off very quickly. Purple Gates has yummy looking cakes as well as ice cream – there is definitely something for everyone.

The restaurant has a gift shop, which showcases the Yanchep Lavender Farm products including essential oils, hand cream and sanitisers.

Producing lavender goods is a one-stop shop for owners Karla and Gary. Lavender is grown on their 25 acre property, harvested and turned into goods for the gift shop and the wider market as well as ingredients for the restaurant.

Purple Gates Bistro at the Yanchep Lavender Farm is only a 40-minute drive from Perth and would be a lovely day trip for seniors as well as families.
