Chapters Boathouse, Two Rocks

Two Rocks, near Yanchep, was like an undiscovered country to me until last week when I visited the township to have breakfast at Chapters Boathouse. I really enjoy the food at Chapters in Currambine so was looking forward to sampling the wares at its sister restaurant.

Open since late 2024, Chapters Boathouse has indoor and outdoor areas. The outdoor area has views over the Indian Ocean, which was windy and wild the morning we were there but I am sure it would be lovely on a summer’s day. It is a licensed restaurant so patrons can enjoy a glass of wine or a pint with their food.

The Boathouse describes its offerings as a sophisticated take on a modern European bistro, focusing on West Australian produce. And its lunch and dinner menu bears this out with dishes such as a twice-baked goats cheese soufflé, Chicken Milanese and a Beef cheek Bourguignon as well a chicken liver parfait. Small, large and sharing plates are available.

Perth’s northern suburbs is well known for having a big ex-British population and this was borne out by the first item on the breakfast menu – a Proper Bacon Butty! My friend chose this for her Sunday breakfast and was presented with two large slices of sourdough packed with heaps of bacon and smothered in HP sauce (tomato sauce is also available). This down-to-earth favourite is $12. A side order of very good hash browns was $5. Her reaction to the food, “It’s bloody delicious”. Says it all really.

I went for the Boathouse Benny ($24) – again heaps of very good bacon but this was on an English muffin with spinach, perfectly poached eggs and a silky hollandaise sauce, all well-presented – excellent choice! It was scrumptious.

Other menu items include Sweet Belgian waffles with vanilla labneh, lemon curd, strawberries and manuka honey ($24) and the Boathouse full English ($29). This dish includes the delicacy known as fried bread that would send cardiologists into a frenzy.

Service at the boathouse was friendly and efficient. We felt well looked after the whole time we were there.

Specials during the week include a Wednesday lunch deal of a steak sandwich and a pint for $24, a Friday night steak night from $27 and kids eat free from 4-6pm on a Saturday. Signature Sunday roasts are available from $30.

The food at Chapters Boathouse is very good – well worth getting out of your comfort zone, travelling north and giving it a try. So what are you waiting for?
