Love a peaceful picnic? Head to Churchman Brook Dam, found in the Perth Hills, just a short drive from Armadale. The dam was built with the use of horse drawn carriages, a century ago, in the 1920s. It is one source of our drinking water in Perth and a pretty spot for a stroll.
After lunch at “The Lizzy” (aka The Last Drop – Elizabethan Village), we took a 5 minute drive to Churchman Brook Dam. The surrounding parkland and bush is beautiful backdrop for a picnic. Throw down a picnic blanket, or sit at one of the many sheltered picnic tables. There’s plenty by the pretty brook at the base of the dam wall, or get a table close to the new playground if you have the grandies in tow.
There are plenty of BBQ facilities at Churchman Brook Dam, if you like to cook up a storm. They’re free, which makes for a very cheap day out. There are also plenty of toilets at the picnic area, with accessible facilities.
At Churchman Brook Dam, you can easily spend a couple of hours exploring and enjoying the sights. ย The water level of the dam is quite low (we visited in June). The turquoise blue water is a beautiful contrast against the red rock of the hills, and green-ish bushland. We found it a little difficult to find our way up to the dam wall from the lower carpark, as there were not any signs (that we noticed).
For children, there’s a lovely playground filled with plenty of play equipment – slides, swings, monkey bars and more.
A large grassed area is perfect for kicking a ball around, but please remember that dogs are not permitted here.
Experience nature at Churchman Brook Dam. An enjoyable and affordable day out in the Perth Hills.
