How Far Is Dwellingup from Perth?

You will reach Dwellingup in just over an hour when you drive from Perth’s city centre. It is inland from Mandurah and situated right alongside the Murray River. Most commonly known for its famous Lane Pool Reserve, Dwellingup is an absolutely insane place to visit for various reasons.

Located in a Jarrah forest which is typical of the West Australian landscape, Dwellingup is a beautiful part of the world. With the stunning Murray River running directly through this town, whether you want a day trip or a whole weekend away, you can camp alongside a stunning river or stay somewhere in town to get the full experience of Dwellingup.

Though, if you want to adventure a bit more, there is so much to do! You can explore mountain bike trails, hiking trails 4WD tracks, white water rafting, canoeing, freshwater fishing wildflowers, rope swings, swimming, and even a high ropes course. Dwellingup is a place that caters perfectly to all ages.

Camping at Dwellingup

Dwellingup has plenty of places to camp. Whether you’re looking for something a bit more settled, such as the Dwellingup Caravan Park or you’re happy to camp in a tent within Lane Poole Reserve, you can head to a variety of different places to set up your camp. However, most people who visit Dwellingup choose to camp in the National Park.

Lane Poole Reserve has plenty of locations for people to camp. Whether you’re going alone, with friends, or have a big group of people, there will be a camping spot suited to your needs. It is recommended that you book online for most of these places, as they are super popular spots and fill up very quickly.

All of the campsites listed here are within walking distance of the Murray River for your convenience. These camping spots are always packed year-round. Sometimes, the National Park even closes for visitors due to how busy it gets.

Lane Poole Reserve Dwellingup

Dwellingup Caravan Park

If you’d prefer not to stay in a tent but still enjoy the camping experience, the Dwellingup Caravan Park is a great spot to stay. They even have chalets on-site! This site is one of Australia’s most unique and interesting developments and it is set right in the very heart of the Dwellingup state forest.

With this accommodation option, you can enjoy the camping experience without having to sleep in a tent. It is luxurious camping, technically. This destination offers a huge range of accommodations from chalets and cabins to caravans and tent sites for your convenience.

No matter who you are or what you need, this site has it for you! Better yet, this camping spot has plenty of night light effects in a peaceful and relaxed setting. This site is within walking distance of the Dwellingup town centre for your complete convenience and ability to travel around.

Baden Powell

This awesome campground is home to three sheltered camp kitchens with cold water taps, gas barbeques, food preparation surfaces, dishwashing sinks, benches, and dining tables. The 42 individual campsites also offer a range of different layouts for caravans, tents, campervans, and even camper trailers.

Four of the campsites, one toilet block, and one camp kitchen have been designed to allow for both wheelchair and pram access. The Baden Powell Campground is a great and accessible option. It is a super cool campground in Lane Poole Reserve.

Charlie’s Flat

When you visit Charlie’s Flat, you are welcome to pitch your tent under the blackbutt, marri, or jarrah trees or find a great little fishing spot right along the riverbank. Charlie’s Flat is situated directly on the Murray River and allows visitors to enjoy access to the fishing spots along the river.

In fact, you can get so close to the river to camp that you can go fishing from the comfort of your tent. It is important to note that Charlie’s Flat is not suited to massive groups. If you like fishing, swimming, and canoeing, Charlie’s Flat is the best place for you to camp right along the Murray River.

With 16 sites, many being for tents and some for RVs, you can enjoy campfires in certain seasons to stay warm and cook up some freshly caught fish.

Tony’s Bend

Tony’s Bend is only a small campground that sits alongside the banks of the gorgeous Murray River. It is perfect for families as it is close to the river and quite secluded. The campsites sit right on the river. Here, you can go fishing, canoeing, and swimming.

If you enjoy canoe adventures or taking a stroll, this is the ideal spot. You can choose from 13 different sites with some being for tents while others are for RVs. In season, campfires at Tonys Bend are permitted. You will feel right at home under the jarrah and Marri trees.

Yarragil

Yarragil is the smallest of all the campgrounds in Lane Pool Reserve. In fact, it only has two campsites available! Clearly, it isn’t suited for large groups or big vehicles.

However, it is great for couples and families. Yarragil is a super popular campsite for people who want to swim and canoe as it is the entry point for canoeists who are setting off on the 11.5-kilometre journey to the Nanga Road Bridge. There are also steps leading into the water here.

Campfires are permitted in season. If you’re looking for more to do, you can head into town and check out the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway or even Vergone’s Fruit Stall if you’re low on fresh fruit and veg. After all, there are plenty of things to do in Dwellingup.

Stringers

Stringers is a very private and peaceful campsite situated along the banks of the Murray River. Only tents are allowed here. It is the perfect base for activities such as mountain bike riding, swimming, canoeing, fishing, and bushwalking on the walk trails.

There are only 6 tent sites available at Stringers. You can light campfires in season in fire pits.

Chuditch

Chuditch is a great place for families and couples to camp. However, it isn’t at all suitable for larger groups. There are picnic tables, gas cooking facilities, a camp kitchen, and untreated water on-site.

14 of the 24 campsites here are for tents only while the others are for camper trailers or smaller caravans. To get down to the bank of the Murray River to swim or canoe, you only need to walk for a few minutes.

It is important to note that campfires are not permitted at this site.

Nanga Mill and Townsite

Nanga Mill is the largest campground in the entire area. It offers a wide range of camping grounds that will suit plenty of needs. During the months of October and April, as well as school holidays, this campground is absolutely packed with people.

This is even more so true when it comes to long weekends. You can’t book at this spot as it operated on a first come, first served basis. Make sure you have alternate arrangements just in case there isn’t a spot available for you.

Campfires are usually permitted in the provided fire rings. However, it is possible for fire restrictions to be imposed anytime without any notice. It is one of the best places to camp around Dwellingup.

Nanga Brook

The Nanga Brook Campground is yet another very popular spot to camp. This campground is well-appointed and super accessible. This is the main reason why this site is so popular as well as it being nearby water in the Murray Valley.

There are 29 sites available that have been specifically designed for campervans, caravans, and camper trailers. Better yet, they are drive-in, drive-out which means no reversing is required to stay here! There are 8 other sites here designed for tents.

It is important to note that bookings are required at this site. If you’re looking for trails and incredible camping spots near the town of Dwellingup, this is the place to be.
