Emu Point Café Review
For great views and good food for breakfast or lunch in Albany – the Emu Point Café has to be on any visitor’s list.
On a recent visit to Albany, our seniors group was staying at Middleton Beach. There is a shared path from the beach to Emu Point and our group did the walk in about an hour. It’s sealed all the way with several lookouts and seats so walkers and cyclists can admire the beautiful views. And the wildlife.
Was that a rat? No it was a quenda, a type of bandicoot. Several quendas popped out to say hello, as did the lizards.
When we reached Emu Point around 10am, it was busy and we couldn’t get an outside table but the inside was fine as it still showcased the lovely views over Oyster Bay.
There is also a nearby playground which is ideal for keeping the grandchildren amused.
Food is ordered at the counter and delivered to the table. Some of the group just had coffee but a few of us needed to fuel up in preparation for the return walk! Scrambled eggs, bacon and toast ($18) was a popular choice. It was well cooked as was the Bacon and Egg roll ($12). I had the bacon and eggs but several of the group remarked on the very good house-made, bbq sauce on their rolls.
The only small gripe we had was the length of time it took to get our coffees. Some of us had finished our breakfasts before the coffees arrived.
Lunch is also served at the cafe. The menu includes staples such as Toasties, Fish and chips and Steak sandwiches but there is also an interesting looking Kimchi with zucchini fritters and an Albany Sardine Board.
Emu Point Café has become an iconic venue in Albany and the owners are proud of their commitment to sourcing local, ethically produced food. Waste is composted and the takeaway area kiosk is plastic free.
