Indian Ocean Brewing Company in Mindarie is one of those easy, go-to spots that ticks all the boxes, especially if you enjoy good beer with a side of marina views.

With craft beers brewed right on site, it’s a great place to settle in with a tasting paddle and work your way through their range, or mix things up with one of the excellent guest craft brews on tap.

The food is casual and shareable, with pizzas and plates that have a bit of an Asian twist, just enough to keep things interesting and to add a little spice. There are also more gluten-free options here than you’ll find at nearby venue The Boat, which is always a bonus if you’re dining with different dietary needs, like myself.

On our visit, we kept it simple with a steak sandwich and chips, which Mr H enjoyed. The porterhouse was cooked perfectly, topped with melted cheese, a garlic chimichurri, tomato, rocket, red onion and aioli, with well seasoned chips on the side.

I kept things light with crispy squid and a small chips. The chilli (not too spicy) and lime squid was tender, which I loved. The punch was in the spicy, smoky chipotle, which I passed on. Both hit the spot and were perfect for a relaxed lunch by the water. You don’t feel rushed at the Indi, and the laid-back vibe makes it easy to linger a little longer than planned.

There’s plenty of seating both inside and out, but if you can, grab a high table overlooking the marina. It’s our favourite spot to sit, sip, and watch the boats come and go. There’s something quite amusing about seeing people launching their boats.

Whether you’re popping in after a marina walk, catching up with friends, or just in the mood for a casual meal with a view, Indian Ocean Brewing Company is a solid choice in Mindarie.
