The ultra-modern Mandoon Estate rises out of the vines, in the Swan Valley. We’ve enjoyed many long lunches here and often bring visiting friends and family to this spot, as we love its Margaret River feel. Mandoon, a small family run estate, expanded in 2014 to become a multi venue behemoth. The state of the art, modern building houses the Wild Swan fine dining restaurant as well as the family friendly Homestead Brewery, a cellar door, function centre, art gallery, boutique accommodation and more.
The Cellar Door is always our first port of call. Here you can taste a few wines free of charge. One of my favourites has to be the crisp Verdelho.
The cellar door staff are very knowledgeable about the wines and more than happy to help with any questions. There’s also a lovely selection of giftware – both wine related products and local produce.
Homestead Brewery is a haven for craft beer connoisseurs. There is a good choice on tap at the microbrewery. You can drink and dine inside by the fire or on the deck, enjoying a lovely view over the lush vineyards. We’ve eaten at Homestead several times and never found fault. Each time the pub-style food has been tasty, reasonably priced, and good quality. Mandoon Estate is very popular and during peak times on weekends and school holidays, you may need to wait for a table. Read our review on Homestead here.
If you opt to sit “out the back” in the shady beer garden there are options to order from the Homestead menu or the deli menu, depending on which day that you visit. There are loads of picnic benches and its right next to the shaded playground. It has a lovely family atmosphere.
Be sure to visit the Linton & Kay Art Gallery too.
It’s found in a beautiful federation cottage.
Inside, you’ll find a whole host of vibrant art for sale, from paintings to ceramics and glass. There’s always something new to see here.
The galleries overlook the banks of the Swan River. The friendly gallery assistant was chatting to me about just how close the waters came to the property when the Swan River flooded a couple of years ago.
The Mandoon Deli found next to the decked area has local gourmet products for sale, as well as take away snacks like chips and pizzas to enjoy in the outdoor area.
The Wild Swan is Mandoon’s up-market fine dining restaurant.
All In All
For wine and food lovers, a stop at the Mandoon Estate for wine tastings and a lazy lunch is a must. It’s very easy to spend a few hours here.
