Where to dine whilst in Perth?

Yagan Square has lots of options to choose from. After browsing around The Market Hall we decided on the unusually named “The Shoe”.

The Shoe is a two storey venue, downstairs is a dog-friendly cafe and upstairs, accessible by both stairs and a lift is a licensed bar/restaurant.

We chose to dine upstairs which offered us great views over the square, and also being a midweek lunchtime was a little quieter than down by the main market hall area.

The menu has a strong focus on West Australian sourced foods and the wine list is unique in offering only West Australian wines. The food is classic Pub Fare and also has available a kids menu that includes a main course with soft drink and dessert, which at $9.50 is excellent value for money.

Spoilt for choice, and wanting to try a little of everything we opted to share the starter of hummus with feta, local olives and Turkish bread ($14) and the aptly named ‘Shoe Box’ (32.50), which, when it arrived, was indeed a shoe box, filled with a selection of appetisers: sausage rolls, fried calamari, roast pumpkin arancini, chicken wings, grilled chorizo and local olives accompanied by aioli and tomato sauce. This offered a great way to try the different items on the menu at fantastic value.

We decided against wine this time but the wine list was very comprehensive and reasonably priced, with the average price for a bottle being around $38 and $9 for a glass.

The Shoe has all of your dining options covered, whether it be grabbing a coffee and breakfast; a beer or wine with mates before heading to or from the arena or stadium; or even a cocktail and a bite to eat after a hard days shopping in the city with girlfriends; all in a casual, relaxed environment.
