Fluffy ginger? Strawberry bubbles? Iced plum Sangria? Decisions, decisions. In the end I went for the Alcoholic lemonade and it was delicious!
Our senior group had earmarked the Wine Tree Cidery prior to our visit to Dwellingup and the day after we arrived, twelve of us made it to the Cidery. I say made it because signs in Dwellingup list the Cidery as 1km out of town and some of our group decided to walk. However there are no pavements and the road has a speed limit of 110 kms so it was quite hair-raising!
The Wine Tree Cidery specialises in small-batch wines and high-quality cider. Inside the entrance to the building is an eclectic exhibition that includes an old car, motorbike and other machinery. The inside area is quite rustic with lots of wood and a very cosy-looking fire burning brightly.
There are balcony tables and a large outside green lawn for children to play on as well as several picnic-type table for patrons to enjoy wine, ciders and food.
Plum blush wine is one I have not heard of before, but a sneaky taste from a friend’s glass convinced me that I would try a glass for myself next time round. It’s made from local plouts (another new word for me) that is a hybrid of a plum and an apricot. No idea what the actual fruit tastes or looks like but the wine product was excellent.
Apricot port is another wine that went down well and very smoothly with everyone who tried it – made from Dwellingup apricots – but watch out as the alcohol count is 25%.
Three ciders are on offer – sweet, medium or dry – made using only 100% apple juice. All three ciders are 6.5% alcohol.
To soak up some of the alcohol, The Wine Tree Cidery has grazing boards for $40 to serve two people. Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian boards are also available. The boards include cheeses, leg ham, pastrami, salami, pickled onions, olives, fruit, olive oil, dukkah, bread and crackers. The menu also has toasted sandwiches ($9-$16) and a kids basket of toasted sandwich with chips ($15).
The Wine Tree Cidery is well worth a visit in the Dwellingup area and I am patiently waiting for an invite to visit friends for Sundowners as many of our group bought bottles of Apricot port to take home!
