Itโs an unwritten rule that all country towns MUST have a quality bakery and the town of Toodyay is no different! Toodyay Bakery is found on the main street. The drive from Perth is around an hour, so a pit stop at the bakery for one of their award-winning fresh bakes is a great idea for a day out.
The bakery has a delicious range of bread, pies, pastries and cakes, to take away or eat in. Grab a seat by the road and people watch, or head upstairs and sit on the balcony. There is a lift, but it was out of order on the day that we visited. Also located upstairs are toilets, which were clean when we visited.
We visited on a public holiday and the queue was out of the door! I suspect that this is a very popular destination most days. The bakery has won a number of awards for various pie flavours, sausage rolls and pasties. We grabbed pies, and the pepper steak pie was deliciously chunky.
The cabinets are brimming with freshly filled baguettes, Turkish breads and rolls, along with many sweet tarts, slices, muffins, cakes and more. Be sure to grab a fresh loaf of bread to take home too.
Found on the Avon River, Toodyay is a lovely spot to visit. Early September is an ideal time when the surrounding fields are busting with yellow canola flowers.
