Ironwood Estate Wines is a must do when in the absolutely gorgeous Porongurup Ranges. Nestled on the hillside overlooking the glorious Stirling Ranges, you could quite possibly sit and soak in the view for hours. The cafe is certainly set up to get the most of the view and delightful ambiance of the estate. We went on a beautiful sunny day and the ranges really did put on a show. It was lovely to dine alfresco, though in the cooler months, probably best to pack some warmer clothes as it does get chilly in the region. Cellar is open for wine tastings and we enjoyed the Ironwood Estate Rocky Rose which was perfect for the warm day and of course our delicious meal. We ordered a cheese platter with a few extras and everything was fresh, tasty and perfectly paired with our tipple……and a smoked salmon caesar salad which was divine! The grounds are picturesque and patrons are encouraged to meander around the lovely gardens and pull up a pew to enjoy the view and peaceful ambiance. There is a quaint little corner inside the wine tasting room with a bucket full of toys and books if you have grandchildren in tow. They also have highchairs available. The resident pooch is so fluffy and friendly and the owners were quick to come over and ensure us if we were not dog lovers they would “shoo him on”. Fortunately we are and he was such a lovely dog. Didn’t once beg or bother us either. Cellar and café are open from 11a.m. to 5p.m. Wednesday – Monday for wine tastings & sales, lunches, coffees/teas and cakes. This is the perfect place for a quiet afternoon drink or lunch when exploring this magnificent part of the world and there is so much to discover in the Porongorups.
