As they say, “location, location, location”, and Island Market has one of the best locations in WA, overlooking Trigg Beach.ย The former Trigg Island Cafรฉ (which was a casual place for coffee, cake), then became Kailis Beach Cafรฉ. In later years the ocean view spot has been known as Island Market. At Island Market, the menu has a mid-eastern feel with pitta breads, Taramasalatas, Za’atar, and tasty spice mixes.
The restaurant has pink hues, a feature fireplace that splits the large room and a very casual beachside vibe. A mixture of seating gives patrons the choice of booths, regular tables, high tables, outside seating or a bench window spot (sitting side-by-side table) looking out to the ocean. On the drinks list are a big range of cocktails, beers, wines and “sans alcohol” softies.
Here you can share dishes, or go it alone – whatever takes your fancy. For those looking for a quick lunch, filled woodfired baked pitas are available daily. Their hummus is also delicious.ย Servers were friendly, but when I asked a simple question (did my lamb dish come with vegetables?), I didn’t get the most helpful response. They said not, but the “Boddington lamb sirloin, braised raisins, chermoula, jus” did come with lettuce. Meanwhile, I’d ordered a side of broccolini, with sesame, and braised tomato. The broccolini were nice enough, but not really needed. The lamb, cooked perfectly pink, was well matched to the herby, zesty chermoula.
My friend loved her tagliatelle pasta, with plump tiger prawns, kale, and a creamy saffron bisque.
Disabled toilets are on the level with ambulant toilets up two steps. There’s plenty of free parking (3-hour limit) at Trigg Beach with ACROD spaces. Be mindful that this car park gets very busy at peak times, like in summer and on weekends.
Over the years I’ve been to Island Market a few times, and always find it pleasant enough. In these “cost of living crisis” times, I would have appreciated saving $16 and skipped the side of Broccolini. Go for the view, the food is pretty good too.
