Witchcliffe has such a lovely, slightly offbeat country feel, and Yardbyrd fits right in.

Set in a cottage with an eclectic, homey vibe, this little café feels more like you’ve popped over to a friend’s place. The front courtyard is especially cute – leafy, relaxed, and very dog friendly, so your four-legged friend can join you for a lazy brunch.

The coffee here is excellent, the kind you’d happily detour a little from Margaret River town for.
The brunch menu is on the tighter side, with mainly ‘eggs your way’ options, but it’s well considered. There’s a tempting cabinet of sweet and savoury bites if you just want something light to get you by until lunch.

I grabbed a nutty gluten-free chocolate brownie for the road and it turned out to be one of the best I’ve ever had – rich, fudgy, moist, and not the least bit dry like some GF treats can be. I only wish that I’d treated myself to two (and took a photo before I gobbled it up)!

After your coffee stop, it’s well worth having a wander around Witchcliffe itself. The town is really up and coming, just 10 minutes’ drive south of Margaret River, with plenty to poke around in – several second-hand and vintage stores, a brilliant record shop (where there’s sure to be a Yardbyrd vinyl!), a bakery, and even a couple of cellar doors.

Yardbyrd makes a lovely starting (or finishing) point for a slow day exploring this character-filled little town.
