Allegria Cafe, Ocean Reef

Allegria is an Italian word meaning happiness and joy and the Allegria Cafรฉ certainly provided that when I visited with a friend for Sunday breakfast.

Tucked away in the Beaumaris Shopping Centre in Ocean Reef, Allegria is fully licensed and serves good food at reasonable prices.

My friend and I decided that we would be visiting Allegria again โ€“ not only for breakfast but also for lunch or Sunday dinner.

Firstly โ€“ breakfast. Food is ordered at the counter and delivered to tables.

My friend ordered the Smashed Avocado Bruschetta ($23). This was served on ciabatta with two poached eggs, feta and roasted cherry tomatoes. I went for Allegriaโ€™s take on Eggs Benedict โ€“ Benโ€™s Eggs ($23), which turned out to be two poached eggs with spinach and free-range ham on ciabatta with hollandaise sauce. The hollandaise was delicious and ham plentiful, eggs cooked to a turn and the bread toasted well. My friend also thoroughly enjoyed her smashed avocado dish that was overflowing with ingredients. We also ordered a side of bacon each ($4), which was a mistake as we could easily have shared the huge side between us!

The couple at the next table were devouring their โ€œThe Worksโ€™ breakfast which was good value at $25 for bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, chorizo beans, hash cake, roast tomatoes and toast. The only negative aspect was that service was quite slow. It was fine for us as my friend and I were having our monthly catch-up but several customers were impatiently waiting for drinks or food,

The cafรฉ has a wood-fired oven and pizzas are an in-demand item on the menu. Pizzas range in price from the $12 small pizza through the $20/22 range to the prawn and calamari large pizza for $29.

Sunday dinner at Allegria is trending locally. Last week the roast of the week was roast pork with roast potatoes, braised red cabbage, broccolini and Yorkshire puddings.

The cafรฉ does not have its own restrooms but the Beaumaris Shopping Centre toilets are almost opposite the cafรฉ and there are accessible toilets. There is loads of parking including two Acrod spaces.

Allegria also has a popular takeaway option and many patrons were ordering their coffee and cake to enjoy in the winter sunshine. There are tables inside and outside and toys to keep the kids happy. There is a regular local clientele which is always a good sign, so if you are in the northern suburbs or if you are visiting, give Allegria Cafรฉ a chance to serve you with some happiness and joy!
