When it comes to fishing, Perth has some of the greatest fishing spots in the whole world. We are lucky enough to have the Indian Ocean on our doorstep and the lovely Swan River snaking throughout Perth. There are just so many excellent fishing options in the Perth area.

Perth is well known for its great weather, stunning beaches, quality rivers, and many hidden gem fishing spots. These spots in Perth vary greatly and some are seasonal while others are all year round. Fishing spots change as the weather cools and warms.

However, seasonal fishing spots aside, there is always somewhere to go and catch some great fish. While Perth is very heavily fished, there are still so many beautiful spots that you can cast a line at. When you head there at the perfect time of year, you will have no worries finding something at the end of your line.

Perth Fishing Spots WA

West End Fishing Spot

Rottnest Island

With the glorious and nutritious Leeuwin pumping very strongly around this area, it is no shock as to why the fishing here is absolutely insane! If you’re going, we heavily recommend fishing from dawn to dusk and anchoring roughly 12-20m and getting some burly out there. Once you sit for a little bit, it really won’t be long until you’re feeling something on the end of your line!

You can expect to catch fish such as Samson fish, Yellow Tail Kingfish, Pink Snapper, Baldchin Gropers, Spanish Mackeral, and Dhufish. However, you will also find so much more here. There is a lot to be explored at this fruitful little spot at Rottnest Island.

You can enjoy shore fishing and many other fishing experiences here. There are a couple of good spots and fish species here, particularly in summer.


Trigg Point


Nothing will truly get your adrenaline pumping like catching some fish at the famous Trigg Point. It is no wonder that the fishing scene absolutely goes off here. Land yourself some good tailor with the kids when you head to this cool fishing spot.

Use sub-surface or shiny surface lures that will push some wake and make noise to attract fish. However, if you’d prefer not to use lures, try to send out some unweighted pilchards or gars on ganged hooks. Make sure you have a strong adult around to help the kids as there are some really big fish at Trigg.


Northern Perth Beaches


Have you ever thought of enjoying some drone fishing? If so, try out any of Perth’s great northern beaches. You can even land some pretty insane Pink Snapper all from land!

The drone fishing method is so insanely cool! You can easily fly baits out about 200-300 metres from shore and drop your line in specific bits of rubble and reef. While doing this, you have the perfect bird’s eye view.

Any of the northern Perth beaches are ideal for drone fishing. Just head to your nearest one and give it a go. If you don’t have your own drone to use, try speaking to a tour guide that uses drone fishing as a method.


Mosman Bay WA

Being one of the deepest parts of the entire Swan River, this awesome fishing spot has plenty of options. You can go crabbing for some delicious Blue Swimmer Crabs when it’s warm. You can also fish for some massive Mulloway and dive at night to grab some huge prawns.

One little visit here will have the whole family fed for a week! The marine life is just so active here that you’re never left just sitting in silence. When you go fishing here, you can enjoy an action-packed bonding experience for the entire family!

Narrows Bridge


Did you know that this awesome fishing spot is in the very heart of Perth which makes it greatly accessible? You can pretty much catch somewhere anywhere along the Swan River. However, the Narrows Bridge is most definitely the best place to catch something good.

You can also grab something to eat after you go fishing and watch the sunset along the skyline while you throw a line out. Some good old fish and chips while fishing never goes wrong. It is a great fishing platform for kids fishing.


North and South Mole Fremantle


If you’re looking for squid, garfish, herring, skippy, or anything else, this is the one-stop shop for all of your greatest fishing needs with the family. It is also a super cool place to try to catch some awesome Australian Salmon. You also have the chance to bag yourselves a Pink Snapper when you have some cold wind on the horizon. It is a great place to go with the whole family as there is something for everyone and lots of places to eat nearby in Fremantle.

You can catch some pretty good fish here at the end of the Fremantle Harbour. This is place is super popular amongst locals, so you need to ensure that you get in early enough to secure a spot and miss the 6 pm rush. Little Creatures is always just around the corner if you’d like to enjoy a beverage or two after your meal.


Floreat Drain


Okay, now we get to a pretty interesting, enchanting, and exciting spot to take the whole family. If you enjoy beach fishing, you should definitely check out this suburban beach turned iconic tailor spot. It is a super beautiful location that sits perfectly along the coastline.

You can pack a nice picnic, bring your canine companion along, and set up for a really nice afternoon of fishing and family bonding. The beach is always pretty packed with locals, so make sure you try to get there before everyone else if you want to catch some tailor or Salmon.

It is best in the afternoon up until the evening. Floreat Drain is a really cool and exciting place to go fishing. You’ll find a large variety of fish here and many fishing opportunities.


Ricey Beach and Radar Reef Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is WA’s favourite island getaway for many different reasons. However, there are also plenty of great fishing spots here. The amazing marine life in this area will absolutely blow your mind.

You can enjoy the beautiful fish while you snorkel at The Basin. However, if you’re looking for a good holiday BBQ, you can head to one of the great fishing beaches nearby. You can easily ride your bike or catch the bus to Radar Reef or Ricey Beach to enjoy some wicked reef fishing and great swimming holes.

This stunning stretch of coast makes it the perfect fishing, swimming, and surfing spot if you really want to make the most of your day. It is also a really cool place to go for a four-wheel drive. The opportunities really are endless when you head to this spot.

It is the perfect place for fishing from dusk to dawn. You can expect to find whiting, herring, and tailor at this awesome beach fishing spot. Mandurah is also full of many great activities, experiences, and places to visit.

Lancelin Jetty


This is yet another spot that is a little further out than the others. However, it is very much worth the drive out for a multitude of great reasons. The Lancelin Jetty is super easy to access for the whole family.

It is one of the best places for like-minded locals to go fishing and have a nice chat with an absolutely exquisite view. You can even hire a gorgeous beach shack for the weekend or grab a bite at one of many Lancelin cafes or restaurants. It is one of the best and safest spots in WA to enjoy nice jetty fishing.
