Duck Duck Bruce Review
Self-described as a quirky restaurant – Duck Duck Bruce in Fremantle is really good. Good food, good coffee and super friendly staff. A friend and I visited for Sunday breakfast – a first visit for us but it definitely will not be our last.
The all-day menu is fun – but what to choose? Should we go for the ‘Bohemian Raspberry’ – pear and raspberry muesli with fruit crisps, lemon and hazelnut crush ($15) or how about the ‘This Little Piggy went to Market’ ($21), basically a spiced sausage burger with cheese custard, hash brown, lots of bacon and a fried egg ($21) or go all out with the ‘We are going to need a Bigger Boat’ ($24) – the big breakfast with bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast.
After concentrated study we both chose the pancakes – ‘Orange is the New Stack’ ($18). What a treat! A vanilla pancake stack with burnt orange curd, toasted almonds and lemon, poppy seed, cheesecake whip. A good presentation and every element was delicious.
The staff was excellent – a lot of restaurants in Perth could learn from Duck Duck Bruce’s staff training. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful without being the slightest bit pushy.
It’s not a huge place but there are outside tables on the front porch and a very pleasant courtyard at the side as well as the inside tables. Both outside areas are dog friendly. Most of the furniture is made from recycled or second-hand items.
I would advise would-be customers to book, especially at the weekends, as there are queues of ‘walk-ins’ waiting to be seated.
Restrooms are outside and this is the only bit that lets Duck Duck Bruce down. There are no disabled facilities presumably because it’s a really old building but there are drainage problems – suffice to say that it was the only time in the last few months that I was glad I was wearing a mask!
