High Tea at the Breakwater Review
High Tea is booming in Perth and the northern suburbs is no exception. Last Sunday, I enjoyed High Tea at the Ishka Restaurant, which is part of the Breakwater complex in Hillarys Boat Harbour. The tables were full – some groups celebrating birthdays, others anniversaries. My friends and I were celebrating a birthday. That the birthday was back in August last year was not a problem – any excuse!
High Tea at the Breakwater is excellent value. Each table has a designated two-hour slot. Prices range from $49 to $149 per person depending on whether customers prefer Prosecco, Chandon or Veuve Cliquot. Each guest receives a token to exchange for a bottle of wine – that’s right one bottle of wine (Prosecco, red or white) for each person plus bottomless tea and coffee and lots of food!
The savoury and sweet items are brought to the table on a cake stand but every guest gets a plate with one of each goodie. The savoury items were: an egg and spring onion sandwich, a ham and spinach sandwich, a smoked salmon and cream cheese blini and a coronation chicken tartlet. Then there are the sweet items: buttermilk scones with strawberry jam and double cream, chocolate brownie, baked lemon cheesecake, French vanilla slice and a chocolate-dipped profiterole.
The bread was a little stale on our first sandwiches. I’m guessing they were made up earlier in the day but the refills which just kept on coming were really fresh.
We couldn’t believe the amount of food that came our way – not to mention the amount that we were consuming but it was all very good. A special shout-out to the pastry chef for the profiteroles, which were excellent.
With views overlooking the Boat Harbour, relaxed pleasant staff, an enormous amount of food and that bottle of wine – High Tea at the Breakwater is a great way to celebrate just about anything.
