Fremantle Markets are an institution that have been stood on the same corner of Fremantle for some 120 years. It is one of those places that we are so used to being there that we can be guilty of forgetting about its existence unless we have visitors and we are doing the tourist thing.
We headed into Fremantle recently and decided to check out the markets again as it’s been a while since we last visited. Stepping inside our senses were assaulted by the sounds and smells so familiar of the Market Hall. As it was a Sunday it was extremely busy; the crowd being a mix of locals and tourists, vying for space amongst the market stalls and buskers.
Some of the stalls we remembered from years past were still going but some had been replaced by newcomers; one of the best things about visiting the markets is that you never know what you might find. There is such a diverse selection of stalls and shops to choose from, if you’re looking for something a little bit different you’ll be sure to find it here; my favourite stall was Coffee Connection where the vast selection of flavoured coffee beans is amazing- Tiramisu, Irish Creme, Chocolate Macadamia, Chocolate Truffle…. need I say more?
The Market yard, which used to house mostly fresh fruit and veg, seems to have grown and now offers an eclectic range of goods; from artisan breads and cupcakes to exotic spices, whole foods and honey and much, much more.
The markets have always been a bit of a food and produce haven but since our last visit there are definitely a lot more options when it comes to dining. Walking amongst the food stalls we saw offerings from all corners of the globe, catering to all tastes.
Whether you are shopping for fresh fruit and veg, a unique or quirky gift or even just a bite to eat, the Fremantle Markets has something for everyone.
