If you’ve ever wished you could wander through the pages of the Harry Potter stories, Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience brings a touch of wizarding magic to the Perth Hills after dark.

Set amongst the bushland of Jorgensen Park in Kalamunda, this atmospheric outdoor experience transforms the forest into an illuminated trail filled with lights, soundscapes, magical creatures and interactive moments inspired by the much-loved Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts stories.

The experience is designed as a self-guided woodland walk, with visitors following a glowing path through the trees. Along the way, you’ll discover enchanting scenes, photo opportunities and spell-casting stations where you can use a wand to interact with the displays. The natural bush setting adds beautifully to the atmosphere, making it feel wonderfully immersive without needing to travel far from Perth.

This would make a wonderful school holiday treat to enjoy with the grandchildren, especially if they’re Harry Potter fans or love anything a little magical. It’s the sort of outing that feels special without needing a full day of planning, and there are plenty of moments along the trail where children can get involved, wave a wand, pose for photos and enjoy the excitement of discovering what’s hidden around the next bend.

The trail takes around 60 to 90 minutes to complete, depending on your walking pace and how often you stop for photos or to enjoy the interactive elements. It is an outdoor event, so comfortable enclosed walking shoes are a good idea, particularly as the path is through a bushland setting and takes place after sunset. If you’re visiting with grandchildren, allow plenty of time so there’s no need to rush through the experience.

Before or after the trail, visitors can spend time in The Village, a cosy event area with ambient lighting, music, seating and food trucks. It’s a lovely spot to arrive early, grab something to eat, or relax after your walk. The venue is licensed, and Harry Potter fans can also enjoy a Butterbeer while soaking up the atmosphere.

For those who enjoy a nostalgic fireside moment, marshmallow roasting kits are available to purchase and can be enjoyed around the fire pit — a lovely little extra that grandchildren are sure to remember. There is also a gift shop with Harry Potter merchandise for anyone wanting to take home a souvenir.

As the experience is held in the Perth Hills during winter evenings, it’s worth dressing warmly. Temperatures can feel much cooler than in the city, so bring a jacket, scarf or extra layers for yourself and the grandchildren. The event goes ahead rain or shine, so an umbrella or raincoat may also be handy if wet weather is forecast.

Toilets are located in The Village area, so it’s best to make use of them before starting the trail. Portable toilets are available onsite.
General parking is located at S&R Orchard, with shuttle buses transporting visitors to and from the experience. Parking costs $16 per vehicle when booked online in advance and includes return shuttle transfers. The shuttle takes approximately 15 minutes each way, so allow extra time before your ticketed session, particularly if you’re travelling with children. Accessible parking is available onsite for those who require it.
Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience runs from 12 June to 12 July 2026. Tickets start from $52 per person, with family bundles available.
Whether you’re a lifelong Harry Potter fan, planning a night out with friends, or looking for something memorable to enjoy with the grandchildren during the school holidays, this spellbinding winter event is a magical way to experience the Perth Hills after dark.
