A few of my favourite finds live in humble suburban shopping strips, and Orchard Espresso Roleystone is exactly that kind of gem. It’s a friendly, unfussy café with seriously good coffee. Plus, it’s perfect before or after a drive to Araluen Botanic Park or a gentle stroll on a Perth Hills trail. Found deep in the suburb, right by the local IGA, we found an outdoor table at this bustling little cafe. There’s plenty of seating inside, as well as a few toys and books to keep grandkids busy.

Not long after ordering, our drinks quickly came out – a flat white in a mug, plus an indulgent iced chocolate (which must always have cream and iced cream) for Mr H. Followed by a hearty brunch.

If you’re there for something quick and easy, or a takeaway, the cabinet has plenty of fresh sweet and savoury options.

We tucked into creamy scrambled eggs, plus smashed avocado on gluten-free toast with a side of crisp bacon. Breakfast simple, fresh, and done right. The brunch line-up covers the classics, the staff are warm, and parking is right outside, which makes it an easy option if you prefer minimal walking between your car and cup of coffee.

Roleystone has that lovely “country-town-but-not-far” feel, so you can make a relaxed morning of it with a wander at Araluen, a scenic Perth Hills drive with valley views, or a visit to a local dam. We took a wander on the nearby Roley Pools trail, parking at the end of Thompson Road.

Seating is comfortable for lingering over a second cuppa, and there are solid gluten-free options if you need them. Weekdays are calm; weekends bring a gentle buzz without the city hustle. If you’re after an off-the-beaten-track brunch that delivers on quality, this little café is a delicious detour.
