Perry’s Paddock, Woodvale

Perry’s Paddock Woodvale

I lived in the northern suburbs for 15 years, often driving past the vast Perrys Paddock on Ocean Reek Road. I cannot tell you why it took me so long to check out this wonderful walking spot! Only recently, I stopped and parked up in the gravel car park and took a stroll. I am so glad that I finally did.

If you love a walk in the great outdoors, particularly if you have a furry friend or two, Perry’s Paddock should be on your list. Not only is it packed with nature, but there are also plenty of historical points to enjoy as well.

Perrys Paddock is found in Yellagonga Regional Park, which runs between Joondalup and Wanneroo and also encompasses Lake Joondalup. This park on the fringes of suburbia that doesn’t get enough attention, in my opinion. There are cycling and walking trails on offer, and lots of wildlife if you keep your eyes peeled. We even spotted a group of noisy geese high up in the trees!

The historical site is named after John (Jack) Perry, who bred racehorses and held lively race meets and picnics here during the 1920’s. Today, you can see what remains of his old stables and homestead and the old windmill leaning against the wall. There are plenty of informational boards along the way, to learn more about the property.

The 3km Beenyup Swamp Circuit is a short trail with a mix of paved, dirt and gravel paths, plus a wooden boardwalk through the lush and shady swamp.

Dogs are permitted at Perry’s Paddock, on leash and be sure to remember those poo bags. Entry is free – be sure to take a wander and check out this northern suburbs gem. We really enjoyed it, particularly my pooch, Ruby.
Find Perry’s Paddock at 1198 Ocean Reef Rd, Woodvale.
