Perth Explorer, Hop on Hop off Bus

Perth Explorer Bus

If you have visitors who are keen to see the sights of Perth but are short on time, or, even if it’s been a while since you’ve had a look around Perth yourself; a good way to do this is on the Perth Explorer, Hop on Hop off Bus.

The bus follows a loop taking in Perth’s most popular sights. There are twelve stops along the route which take in Elizabeth Quay, the Cultural Centre, Optus Stadium, Crown Perth, The Perth Mint, Kings Park and Yagan Square.

We boarded the bus at Elizabeth Quay and decided to do the complete loop in one go at first, to make sure we got to see everything, before deciding where to alight for lunch; the complete circuit takes approximately 2 hrs. We pre-purchased our tickets online but it is also possible to buy the tickets from the driver when first boarding. There is a choice of 24hr and 48hr tickets, we bought 24hr tickets but I think that the 48hr tickets are a better option as there is a lot to fit into one day. The bus passes each stop every hour so it gives you time to have a quick look around, or you can spend longer and catch a later bus.

We were given earphones to plug into the sockets provided at each seat so that we could listen to the commentary that accompanied the trip, you can select from eight different languages plus there is also a special channel for children with commentary by Kev the Kangaroo. As it was a lovely day we sat upstairs on the open top deck, which gave us a great birds-eye view and also thrilled our grandchildren, who have only ever been on a double-decker bus once before, in London.

Perth Explorer Bus

We really enjoyed seeing Perth from a different perspective and having the freedom to jump on and off the bus whenever we wanted made for a fun day out.

  1. […] not seem relaxing, but with the Perth Explorer, it can be an absolute delight. As a hop-on-and-off, this is a trip that suits families and older tourists because of the relaxed nature of the route. This is definitely an excellent way of getting around the city and sightseeing with minimal fuss. […]
