Bites by D, Mount Hawthorn

Cruising through Mount Hawthorn we were needing a caffeine fix and a bite to eat. Not being familiar with many of the cafes and restaurants in the area we checked out a few before deciding on a little place called “ Bites by D “

Walking inside we were impressed by the sophisticated decor which has a bit of a French bistro feel to it. At the front of the cafe are comfortable yellow couches that invite you to sit and stay a while, or if you prefer a more formal seating arrangement there are tables set with beautiful flowers under twinkling chandeliers.

The glass counter held a mouth-watering display of sweet and savoury treats. The cakes and slices were especially tempting and there was such an array that it was difficult to make a choice.

Both My friend and myself chose a pumpkin and feta tart with side salad for lunch, then came the dilemma of which cake to accompany our coffees.

I opted for the ‘Winter Delight’ a raspberry chocolate brownie with rhubarb and strawberry jelly, chocolate mousse, cheese mousse and vanilla chantilly, whilst Sally picked the ‘Frangipane Tart’, a shortcrust pastry tart with an almond filling, topped with fresh fruit. These were served with our coffees which we were offered in three different sizes. The coffee beans used in the cafe are 4 Senses, or if you prefer tea then there is a large selection of loose leaf teas on offer from T2.

The cafe offers breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake daily, and also a High Tea option at the cost of $45pp weekdays and $55pp on Saturday and Sunday, and which must be booked in advance. The table next to us had booked the High Tea and their table was set beautifully with a selection of savoury and petite desserts served on gold tiered plates. I have already decided that I will have to do a return visit with my daughter for the High Tea one afternoon.
