The happening spot in Applecross is the very recently opened Quarter Acre Hotel. Sitting on Canning Highway along from the bottom of Riseley Street is this very modern pub, the new โlocalโ for Applecross and areas nearby.
We popped in for a quick drink on their second day of opening. Seems as though all locals had the same idea, 7pm on a Tuesday evening and most tables inside and out were full. The hotel has a huge beer garden area. It has a relaxed โbackyardโ feeling with lots of casual tables and chairs and umbrellas to provide shade and a sandpit for the kids!
There are 2 bar areas, one inside and one out. Service for drinks was very prompt considering the number of people. The wine list and the menu are quite small but hopefully, this will be extended in the near future. What a lovely peaceful place this was to sit and enjoy a drink on a summerโs evening, considering we were right on Canning Highway, just like being outside on your own patio under the grapevines.
We returned on the Friday evening for a meal and if I thought Tuesday was busy, boy was I wrong. The curiosity of all the locals and the place was full, not a table to be had. They do not take reservations for tables at this stage as they like the idea of a friendly local where you just drop in. We managed to get a table by befriending some folk. The menu as I said was small, but this was the explanation offered, โDue to the large number of people we are receiving through our doors during our soft opening we shall be running a limited menu over the coming days and long weekend so that we can provide the best service and food turnaround time to all our customersโ. Though limited it did include sufficient choice. It had all the classics; fish and chips, chicken parmigiana, nachos, steaks and burgers, they also had a kidโs menu and a few gluten-free options. I can vouch for the nachos with pork, they were lovely, and the serving was huge, my partner had the โparmiโ and he said it was great. Watching all the food coming out from the kitchen it all looked amazing and their serves were huge. I look forward to seeing the full menu which they assure us is coming soon. Considering the number of people coming and going, service at the bar was quick and the food came out extremely quickly. There is no table service but there were plenty of staff to assist and clear tables.
It is a very friendly venue with a great atmosphere and the customer service was outstanding. A lovely place to while away some time.
