Sandalford, Caversham

Sandalford Caversham

Since one of the Swan Valleyโ€™s favourite wineries, Sandalford in Caversham, enjoyed a renovation a few years ago I’ve dined there many times. The restaurant was modernised, bringing a spacious and welcoming feel. Outside, there’s a shady terrace and dining area on the lawn, under mature trees. My tip is to pop to the cellar door for a tasting before lunch – to suss out your favourite drop.

This time, we stopped by for a weekday lunch in the lead up to Christmas. The light and bright dining room was bustling. There’s an open kitchen and beautiful fireplace. Plenty of seating (including cushioned booths) lends well to larger group gatherings.

The menu offers share plates, as well as mains and wood fired pizzas. For main, I chose the market fish-of-the-day. The fresh WA-caught fillets were served with a with grilled zucchini, mint, pistachio, green raisin, Aleppo pepper, lemon caper dressing (gf,n). This was a delicious dish indeed.

Most main dishes are on the light side, so you may want to consider a side if you have a big appetite. The wood fired brussel sprouts are a good choice!ย Pizzas from the oven are also popular.

Sandalford

On to desserts and I loved the light “Torched pineapple”, served with lime white chocolate whipped ganache, crystalised macadamias, and coconut lime sorbet.

Sandalford

Gianduja chocolate mousse, served with sable, orange gel, dark chocolate gelato, and hazelnuts was also a hit on our table.

If you have grandchildren in tow, they will love the playground. Wine barrel themed – of course! The playground isn’t close to the restaurant, but near enough to the outside terrace to keep an eye on older children. The sandy play area has a slide, fireman’s pole, and plenty of logs and planks to balance on.

Sandalford Caversham

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch at Sandalford and would thoroughly recommend a revisit to this Swan Valley favourite. The restaurant is a great place for celebrating with family, or simply if youโ€™re treating yourself to a top notch lunch!
