Things to do in Fremantle
Fremantle Prison
One of the most striking things to learn about Fremantle Prison is that it was in use right up to 1991. Opening just a year later to paying guests, the convict build buildings are fascinating and sometimes haunting place to take a tour and see what lays behind the massive perimeter walls. Fremantle Markets
A weekend visit to the port city is not complete without a wander around the historic Fremantle Markets! The Freo institution has been stood on the same corner for over 120 years. It’s brimming with many unique gift and food offerings. Read all about it in the Seniorocity review.
WA Maritime Museum, Fremantle
The modern WA Maritime Museum is found at the busy port. The interesting spot showcases Western Australia’s rich past and present as a coastal region. If you arrived as an immigrant by boat, you may find your family name on the welcome walls too. Read all about it in the Seniorocity review.
Fremantle Library
A new Fremantle Library has opened at the large Walyalup Civic Centre. As well as many books to borrow, there are excellent facilities for over 55’s. The Round House, Fremantle
If you love delving into history and taking a look around old buildings, you can’t get much older (in WA) than The Round House! Freo’s original prison has a fascinating story, and breathtaking views. Read all about it in the Seniorocity review.
Samson House, Fremantle
The little-known Samson House is a must visit for lovers of history. The grand house was built for the Lord Mayor, Michael Samson, in the late 1800’s and is looked after by the National Trust. Read all about it in the Seniorocity review.
Rainbow Container
Depending on which way you arrive into Fremantle, you can’t miss the bright rainbow container art installation. It has overlooked the port since 2016 and is a great spot for a photo.
Fremantle Tourist Wheel
Get a different perspective of the port city from the Fremantle Tourist Wheel. Found at the Esplanade Park, the wheel provides stunning views over Freo, and an opportunity to spot it’s many landmarks.
Arts Centre
Fremantle Arts Centre is home to many exhibitions, as well as events, workshops and a café. The gothic building, built by convicts, is also said to be haunted – it was once used as a “Lunatic Asylum and Invalid Depot”. It is free to enter and enjoy.
Shipwrecks Museum
This brilliant museum is free to visit, though a gold coin donation is encouraged. Focusing, on maritime archaeology, there’s many remnants of wrecks on display (including timbers from the Batavia) that tell tales of WA’s checkered past.

Republic of Fremantle Distillery Tour and Tasting
