Film photography has made a remarkable comeback in recent years, and it’s easy to understand why. There’s something genuinely special about the process of shooting on film — the anticipation of waiting to see your results, the warmth of the colours, and the beautiful grain that gives each photo its own personality. Much like vinyl records, film photography is enjoying a well-deserved renaissance, with people of all ages rediscovering the joy of analogue photography. If you’ve got a roll or two sitting in a drawer, or you’ve just picked up a film camera for the first time in decades, the good news is that Perth has a growing number of wonderful places where you can get your film developed.
Churchill Imaging
Churchill Imaging is a true one-stop shop for all things photographic. No job is too big or too small for this talented team, and if you’re looking to have your images blown up into large prints or displayed on canvas, this is the place to come. They can handle colour (C-41), black and white, and E-6 slide film in 35mm and 120 formats, and they also offer custom framing and photo restoration services. Their gallery space is even available for hire, which is a lovely touch for anyone wanting to show off their work.

Focus Pocus
Focus Pocus is a charming small operation run by passionate local photographer Chris Beecroft. What started from humble beginnings has grown into a dedicated little lab in Fremantle, and it’s all the better for it. You’ll find a solid selection of film stock to choose from, regular camera drops, and a 24/7 dropbox outside the lab for those times you can’t make it during business hours. Black and white film is developed by hand, which adds a wonderful personal touch to the whole experience.

Camera House
If you’re after a straightforward, no-fuss experience, Camera House is a reliable choice. As arguably Australia’s biggest film developing chain, they have multiple locations across Perth to make things convenient. However, it’s worth knowing that only their Leederville, Hay Street, and Fremantle stores have dedicated film processing labs. Colour film in both 35mm and 120 formats is catered for, and if you drop your rolls off early enough in the day, there’s a good chance you’ll have your scans back before closing time.

Fitzgerald Photo
A genuine institution of the Perth photography scene, Fitzgerald Photo in North Perth has been processing film for over 50 years. That kind of longevity speaks for itself. The team here truly knows their craft, and they’re one of the few labs in the city that can handle large format film alongside the more common 35mm and 120 formats. Whether it’s colour or black and white you’re after, you’re in very capable hands.

Silver Halide Studios
Silver Halide Studios offers something a little different from the larger labs: a personal, hands-on approach that film enthusiasts tend to love. They hand-process black and white film, and also handle colour (C-41) and E-6 slide film, as well as medium and large format photography. The pricing is very reasonable, and they’ve recently added a film vending machine to the location, so you can easily stock up on fresh rolls while dropping off your finished ones. If Mount Lawley is a bit of a stretch, they also have a convenient drop box in Padbury.

Irohas Photo
One of Perth’s newest additions to the film developing scene, Irohas Photo opened in March 2025 in the atmospheric Trinity Arcade on St George’s Terrace in the CBD. The owners, Hendo and Raphaël, bring impressive international experience, having run labs in Brussels and Melbourne. As well as developing and scanning (including a same-day option), they sell a range of fully-tested cameras that come with a warranty. They’re also planning events and small exhibitions as the business grows, so it’s well worth keeping an eye on their Instagram to see what’s coming up.

digiDirect
For those who don’t mind heading a little further afield, digiDirect in Cannington is a solid option. They process 35mm colour film, turn things around quickly, and as a bonus, they’ll throw in a free roll of C200 film when you drop yours off — which is rather generous. As a well-established Australian chain, you can trust them to get the job done with minimum fuss.
