The Guildford Hotel, Guildford

The Guildford Hotel, Guildford

The Guildford Hotel has been sitting proudly on James Street, with its commanding Belvedere tower, until it was gutted by fire in 2008. For many years it sat derelict and decaying, until 2016, when the doors finally reopened. My husband and I were amazed by the stunning restoration, that it both modern and sympathetic to the old buildingโ€™s features and character.

Features from the original building can be seen everywhere. Exposed convict-made bricks, old fireplaces and even the giant charred jarrah beams that once supported the second floor, still remain as a reminder of the not so distant past.

There are many seating options – in the main dining area and the sports bar inside. The large outdoor courtyard and thereโ€™s plenty of space upstairs too. The upstairs area was closed for a function, though Iโ€™m told that there are endless nooks to explore and you can enjoy a wonderful view of Guildford from one of the many verandas.

Food

The menu has lots of tasty pub favourites, with a focus on BBQ, burgers and share food. Beer lovers are spoilt for choice with 18 beers on tap and there’s a good range of wines too.

My Husband, ever the carnivore, chose the sticky Albany pork butt ($27) from the pitmaster menu. The tender meat was smothered in Carolina sauce and served with slaw, potato salad and pickles.

I opted for something lighter, but no less delicious, the Jerk salmon Nicoise salad ($28).

Our Grandson chose quality Southern Fried Chicken tenders with chips and salad ($12) from the kids menu. This also included a drink of juice.

All In All

The Guildford Hotel is a walk in venue with bookings available for larger groups of four or more. We had no problems finding a table on a Saturday, but we did arrive a little before the noon lunchtime rush. It’s a beautiful spot, oozing with history and delicious pub fayre.
