The Bickley Valley, in the Perths Hills, is the up and coming place to visit! There’s so many wonderful wineries, as well as quaint Kalamunda with its many gift shops, Farmers Market and cafes. Masonmill Gardens has lots to do, making it a destination in itself. Previously known as The Rose Farm, the venue enjoyed a spectacular redevelopment a few years ago.
Restaurant
Open breakfast, lunch and dinner, the café has sweeping views over the rose covered gardens below.
You can sit inside or outside at the modern café. There’s a tasty menu and the spot is also fully licensed.
The menu is full of options like burgers, pasta, fish and chips, gourmet pizza, salads, sandwiches and their signature “steak on a stone”. The cabinet desserts are delicious too.
There’s plenty of drinks options too. The restaurant is fully licenced.
There’s also a bar and a colourful Irish-village themed beer garden outside.
You can enjoy a pint of Guinness and enjoy the sweeping garden views from the colourful terrace, which has live music on weekends.
The Gardens
We always enjoy a walk around the extensive grounds at Masonmill. The gardens are immaculately kept and so peaceful. There was a beautiful display of everlasting wildflowers when we visited in October.
If you love roses, spring and summer are perfect times to visit Masonmill’s stunning rose gardens.
Be sure to seek out the hidden French Gardens, which are very well hidden up some steps behind the restaurant.
They are absolutely spectacular and we loved having a wander around and finding many beautifully manicured nooks.
Mini Golf
There’s also a mini golf course at Masonmill. We do love a game of putt putt with our Grandson! The golf clubs are collected from the gift shop. The course is built with local materials, like logs and huge coffee rocks, which are used as obstacles. The logs are also perfect for sitting on, if you’re waiting your turn. The mini golf is challenging, but not too difficult. There’s a few tight angles, tunnels, “bunkers” and slopes just to make things tricky! There’s not much shade, so you may want to take an umbrella, like I did.
We really enjoyed our game – it’s something everyone from ages 4 to 94 can enjoy together!
Grandkids
There’s a children’s menu on offer. Colouring in is also available for keeping kids busy at the table. Outside, kids will love running around the lovely playground. It’s fully fenced and gated, and has a covered outdoor seating area. It’s suited to younger children with a cubby house, sandpit, slide, stepping stones and wobbly logs to play on.
Little ones will love to feed the fish in the pretty koi pond too. Fish food is bought from the gift shop.
Masonmill Gardens’s cafe, The Lodge, is open for breakfast, lunch, coffee n cake and high tea. With plenty of large tables, it’s perfect for group catch up. With so much to do, Masonmill is a great spot in the pretty Perth Hills for a day out.
